Doe Deere, the founder and CEO of Lime Crime Cosmetics, has the story of a journey from an aspiring singer to a successful entrepreneur in the cosmetic industry. She also remembers her journey from Russia to New York and finally to Los Angeles and the transformation over the years. She says that entrepreneurship was in her blood as she started selling temporary tattoos to her school friends at the age of 13 back in Russia. Her initial years as a musician in New York taught her how to develop career and strategize successful marketing. Doe fondly remembers that she met her husband while they were working together in a music band. They found that they could work greatly together as both were interested in songwriting, Doe said.
Deere advises young women to follow their heart as she believes that everyone has something special, and people who tune that correctly would really blossom. She said she likes to tell “go where you love” to everyone and drive them to their passion. Deere also spoke about being explored themselves and stated that in her younger days, Doe felt she was different and alone in her thinking. But later, she realized she is part of the universe and related herself to other people, and that helped her to open her cosmetic brand, Lime Crime.
Deere was very much attracted towards bright colors, and in 2008, the makeup industry was revolving around super natural look, and there were no glossy cosmetics available. This made her a decision to kick-off her own brand of products according to her choice. However, when she launched the cosmetic brand, she found that there are many women who are interested in bright colors, and from then, the company became profitable. She pointed out that the makeup gives her the freedom to be herself and express without any fear of judgment.
Deere also claimed that she is from fashion background as she completed her graduation in fashion design from FIT, New York. For her, both fashion and makeup go hand-in-hand, and people express themselves by what they wear, how do they style their hair, and what they put on the bodies and face. Dee has a clear understanding on cosmetics that it is not to conceal any imperfections but a sign of self-expression. Deere also maintains an active Instagram account with a huge fan following, and that helps her to give her cosmetic statements and communicate with the followers regularly.
